Project Description
The North Lantau Expressway is part of the Airport Core Programme in the 1990s. The ultimate aim of the new motorway is to connect Hong Kong’s urban core with the international airport in Chek Lap Kok as well as associated new town development in Tung Chung.
North Lantau Expressway forms part of Hong Kong’s Route 8, linking Hong Kong International Airport and Lantau Island with the rest of the territory. The road is 12.5 kilometres in length and has three lanes in each direction, while Tai Ho section is about 7 kilometres long and built mainly on reclaimed land.
Scope of Works
Deep compaction of sand fill by vibroflotation method for construction of the North Lantau Expressway, Tai Ho section. The works were carried out both on land and marine.
– Land deep compaction: (a) compaction volume 6.7 millions m3
– Marine deep compaction: (a) compaction volume 1.7 millions m3
